The Rise of Sky Net Watson!!!! We got WATSON HERE!!!!!

Last night Watson premiere on Jeopardy against two human. Watson is a think machine design but the people over at IBM. Watson doesn't know everything. It decipher the clues that are given in Jeopardy and makes an educated guess. It was impressive to say the least with a machine that can understand human voice decode it and answer a question.
How Watson thinks.
Many of you remember taking that foreign language. You would listen to the teacher, catch a word here and there and then try to answer the teacher back in that language? When I went to Greece I would listen to my girlfriend's family speak and every now and again I would hear a word I thought I know like "amos". I knew ( or at least I thought I knew) they were talking about sand. I would try to chime in about the beach and sometimes I was right and sometimes I was wrong. It's just like how Watson thinks.
It is pretty impressive how well the computer answered the question. It did well except for final Jeopardy when the question was This city's largest airport is named for a World War II hero; its second largest, for a World War II battle." It's answer was Toronto??? With a whole bunch of question marks because it thought with a 14% that was the correct answer. If it would have been a regular jeopardy question Watson wouldn't of chime in.

It a great first step in a direction with artificial intelligence but it is a scary one too. I think I'm safe it doesn't understand scar-ism, at least not yet.....

Foreign Vs Domestic

So we have a problem in this country. A lot of us buy foreign cars.Why? Is it because they are better? They get better gas mileage?
I am going to debate on the behalf of American cars obviously.....

Ok Let's start with the gas mileage. On an average Chevy and Ford gas mileage either match Toyota or Honda or beat them. Here comes the argument from the Prius owners. (Prius owners grumble with anger) Ok the Prius get great gas mileage in the city, not so much on the highway and is environmentally friendly. We all have seen the Prius commercial look below.



But Chevy has it own answer to problem. It's name is the Chevy Volt. The Chevy Volt is an PHEV, which stands for Plug in hybrid Electric Vehicle. Uses no gasoline for 40 miles and then uses a combustion engine just to power the electric motor. You are look at MPG of 203 miles.



With all the problems Toyota is having, this is American time to shine. With all new models coming out, Baron (a financial paper) said "GM IS BACK!" I hope this is true....
American Cars Rule!!!!! I am excited for the launch of the Chevy Volt in November, and for other American cars coming out.

"Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan."
These words were spoken by FDR on December 8th. Within 33 minutes the United States declared war on Japan almost unanimously. The vote was 388 to 1. The only one to opposed was named Jeannette Rankin from Montana. Can you imagine congress doing anything that fast these days?
2,390 people died on Dec. 7th. The worst tragedy in American history since September 11th where 2,940 people lost their lives. The memorial for the USS Arizona was beautiful. (See picture above) I actually got to see school children drop leis on the memorial. At the memorial it had all the names of the men that lost their lives on that day. Also the one who survived and died later on, had the option to be buried with their crew on the USS Arizona.
Sometimes I feel American forget to easily. That was a event we must never forget. Just like we shall never forget 9-11. WE NEED A MEMORIAL.... Almost nine years has come and gone and there isn't anything there...... We have children who are almost nine who have no idea what the World Trade Center was. Going to Pearl reminded me that NY needs a memorial and we need one NOW!!!!! I know that there is a debate on what should be put there. Everyone is not going to be happy no matter what we do. You can't pleases everyone... There should be something there, where children can lay flowers at the men and woman who lost their lives on that day... We need to have a movement and I am willing to start that movement. Pearl reminded me that the American spirit never dies and when pushed America can be great... But only when we are pushed. We need not to be push in order to be great. We can be great on our own. I love this country. GOD BLESS AMERICA...

Hawaii the Aloha State

Greeting from Hawaii

Yes I did take this picture... cause I like like it!!! Well Aloha (means hello and goodbye confusing I know) and greeting from Hawaii. This state is definitely one of the most beautiful states in the union. If you have not been here, you should go.. The flight was long... It took 11 hours from Newark to Honolulu. After flying to Australia which is 26 hours, 11 hours is nothing. I almost forget that Hawaii is part of the United States... So far on my first day I met interesting people, saw classic cars and went to the beach.. Let start with interesting people, a gentleman name JB who was trying to convince me to go on a tour of the local bar in Hawaii (also know as a Pub Crawl). He was funny and very convincing I let you know if I am going it on Tuesday.. I will keep you posted. He told me about a bar, who the owner is from Brooklyn, which peaked my interested. I mean if you can't trust a guy from Brooklyn who can you trust?
I saw three classic cars. 1970's Mustang Mach 1, 1920's Model T and a 1950's Chevy Bel Air. They were everyday drivers. Two of them I saw at Walmart. Yes they have Walmart in Hawaii, actually there are four of them.... The cars were beautiful. There is no rust here in Hawaii cause they don't have snow. Yes you still get rust from sea water but usually doesn't happen..

Finally the beach. What can I say the beach was gorgeous (see picture below). The water was clear, waves were big and view was to die for. There were Sea turtles swimming and tropical fish at the bottom of my feet. So I am getting ready for dinner (Yes there is a time difference of six hours to NYC) at the Hard Rock. I will let you know how that goes and I will be going to the Dole Pineapple plantation tomorrow. So check back.

Public Schools will be Close Tomorrow

Chancellor Klien announced that public school will be closed tomorrow Febuary 10, 2010. Never in a million years did I think that they were going to close. So tomorrow will be an interesting day. To all the teachers out there enjoy your day and tonight. Hopefully I will have pictures of tomorrow event.

Due to anticipated inclement weather conditions, all New York City public schools will be closed tomorrow, February 10, 2010. All after-school activities, PSAL events, and all other events taking place in school buildings will also be cancelled. While travel conditions to school in the morning may not be difficult, the weather is expected to worsen as the day progresses, complicating dismissal. We are making this decision today to give parents as much time as possible to make alternative plans for tomorrow.

I love New York

I love New York... With that being said.... I know traffic laws don't apply here in this city, but in the rest of the country it does.... When the lights on a school bus are flashing RED (Red is define as any of the various colors resembling the color of blood; the primary color at one extreme end of the visible spectrum, an effect of light with a wavelength between 610 and 780 nm) that means STOP!!!!! That doesn't mean to get out of your car, walk over to my car and start yelling at me! (Unless that is a new law. I don't think you are suppose to do that). In New York, you are required to stop on both side of the road in order to make sure children cross the intersection safely. Common Sense!!!! When did common sense get thrown out the window? The funny thing is, she was driving a Toyota. Now it makes sense! She couldn't stop with all the brake issues they are having. With that said and done... Follow the law with the school buses! It could cost you a fine of $250 or more and 5 points on your license plus you could save someone life.
